Final Title Design

Title Ideas

The logo we created above is effective due to large fonts which are appealing to the reader. The colours we have used catch the readers attention due to them being bright and bold, we believe it is important to have a colour scheme as it gives the audience something that is consistent which they will then recognise.

In the mind map shown above we have put down ideas for different names of our newspaper. We Have decided to merge together some of our ideas and have come up with the name of 'The Warrington Evening News', we feel this is a catchy name for a regional newspaper and will fit with multiple slogans.

Logo Research

As part of our research into current regional newspapers, we have looked at the logo's shown below.

The first logo shown here is from the Wigan Evening Post. There are many pros to this logo, one of these being the bold font used for the main title 'Wigan'. The negatives to this logo is the fonts, as you can see the words 'Evening Post' and 'Wigan' are presented in a different font, this is distracting for the reader and makes the layout of the magazine appear un-professional and cheap.

We feel that the layout of this logo is slightly more professional than the logo shown above. However, we are not keen on the colour scheme as we feel the primary colours aren't very subtle. Although we feel that the colours are too bright they do capture the readers attention meaning that there is

One of the features we like about this logo is the use of the varying directions of text, by presenting the 'St Helens' vertical rather than horizontal it forces you, the reader, to spend time working out the newspaper brand which may then entice you to purchase it.

The Warrington Guardian uses a very simple layout for its main logo, as you can see they have used a basic colour scheme focusing only on primary colours. We found this logo and the font used unprofessional and felt it didn't portray the newspaper well.

After researching into various layouts and logo designs used by current regional newspapers, we found that The Manchester Evening News had the best colour scheme and page layout. We will incorporate their ideas into our own work but also include aspects from the newspapers shown above, after looking at the results from our survey we found that people feel adverts are an important factor in newspapers so we will be sure to create high quality adverts.

Survey Results

When researching into various newspapers and their target market we created a survey using www.surveymonkey.co.uk. In this survey we asked various questions such as, 'which newspaper do you prefer to read?' From this we offered a multiple choice selection of answers.

The answers we found have allowed us to make important decisions regarding our newspaper. For example, how much our newspaper will cost. As you can see from the slide shown above, the most popular price was between 50p-£1.00. We feel this would be a fair price range for our newspaper and we will do further research into existing newspaper costs before making our final decision. Another question we asked was whether people prefered large blocks of text or captive images. our results found that 58 people liked a newspaper to involve both however 36 people just prefered images. We want our newspaper to attract a middle aged audience and will ensure our stories and adverts fit to that age group.
