As part of our research into current regional newspapers, we have looked at the logo's shown below.
The first logo shown here is from the Wigan Evening Post. There are many pros to this logo, one of these being the bold font used for the main title 'Wigan'. The negatives to this logo is the fonts, as you can see the words 'Evening Post' and 'Wigan' are presented in a different font, this is distracting for the reader and makes the layout of the magazine appear un-professional and cheap.
We feel that the layout of this logo is slightly more professional than the logo shown above. However, we are not keen on the colour scheme as we feel the primary colours aren't very subtle. Although we feel that the colours are too bright they do capture the readers attention meaning that there is
One of the features we like about this logo is the use of the varying directions of text, by presenting the 'St Helens' vertical rather than horizontal it forces you, the reader, to spend time working out the newspaper brand which may then entice you to purchase it.
The Warrington Guardian uses a very simple layout for its main logo, as you can see they have used a basic colour scheme focusing only on primary colours. We found this logo and the font used unprofessional and felt it didn't portray the newspaper well.
After researching into various layouts and logo designs used by current regional newspapers, we found that The Manchester Evening News had the best colour scheme and page layout. We will incorporate their ideas into our own work but also include aspects from the newspapers shown above, after looking at the results from our survey we found that people feel adverts are an important factor in newspapers so we will be sure to create high quality adverts.
